GET COMPLIANT IN 2016! DOL INCREASES NUMBER OF WORKPLACE VISITS

As 2016 approaches, it is time to make sure you are in compliance with current state and federal labor law posting regulations! For the New Year, the federal government has announced an increase in the budget allocated for the Department of Labor. As part of this, millions of dollars will be put toward supporting efforts for employment laws and for securing safe and healthy workplaces. This will likely mean an increase in strategically scheduled inspections, more workplace compliance audits, more labor law poster audits, and an increase in citations given. Additionally, the 2016 Department of Labor budget includes a $2 billion initiative for additional employer labor law posting requirements in selected states for Paid Leave.

Why do I need Labor Law posters?
Labor law posters are a big piece of the compliance jigsaw puzzle, with every state having its own set of unique mandates regarding what needs to be posted on an employer’s wall. Labor law postings are required for employers with one or more paid employee and are released by a variety of state agencies, such as a Department of Labor, a Division of Unemployment Insurance, OSHA, or a Division or Workers’ Compensation. In addition to posting the state-required postings, employers must display a set of postings released by the Federal Government that apply country-wide. These postings must be displayed in an unlocked, unblocked area visible to both applicants and employees.

Avoiding Fines & Penalties
It is the responsibility of all employers to remain compliant with labor law postings by displaying the latest, most up-to-date notices, to prevent penalties and risks of non-compliance. Failure to post up-to-date labor law postings can result in fines up to $17,000 per location (29 USC Sec. 666(i) and 29 USC Sec. 2005). To minimize risk of non-compliance, Payroll Vault has developed a turn-key pay-as-you-go labor law poster update service to ensure year-round and hassle-free compliance.
